Mental age is a concept in relation to intelligence, it is seen to be the age at which a person performs intellectually. An individual’s mental age when divided by his chronological age and multiplied by 100, gives the intelligence quotient(IQ). Thus, when a person’s mental and chronological ages are identical, he/she has an IQ of 100, or average intelligence. However, if a 12-year-old has a mental age of 15, his IQ is 125, which is rated well above average.
