Move over ankara, velvet now rules the asoebi county! Velvet is arguably the most popular fabric featured in Nigerian weddings this season, or maybe even all of this year! I bet we all remember the era of the akwa oche (igbo phrase meaning cloth material used in making chairs), which went out of fashion; apparently it is back enjoying massive use. Velvet is loved mainly for its soft and rich feel, exotic in appearance no matter the color or use. I must say that from all indications, velvet is going to be around for a while as there are diverse styles to optimizing this one cool fabric. Take a look around you and you just might get inspiration for your next asoebi.
